Powerhouse in the wrong bottle I Warning: wolf in sheep's clothing!
The Epic 56 is a real wolf in sheep's clothing; Amouage does a lot of things right, but here the choice of bottle is really more than unfavorable, as the fragrance is very masculine in my view, and yes, of course you could still market it as unisex for marketing reasons, but yes - you actually need courage to do that.
Now, why do I share this opinion?
- In my opinion, the fragrance and its main players are extremely masculine-oriented. I simply cannot imagine that I would want my wife to smell like that.
- First and foremost, you can smell peppery cumin in the opening; overdosed, but beautifully balanced together with an extremely light, delicate rose, but very spicy.
- A strong incense note is added very quickly, which is far more pronounced than in Zefiro in my opinion, already very "churchy". Together with a slightly ambery sandalwood base, the drydown results in a strongly incense-oriented, woody fragrance that really has a minimal, absolutely marginal balance of floral notes. The oud is practically imperceptible, but perhaps the incense is just too strong.
- The H/S is beastly, the fragrance lasts forever and also projects very well. Definitely in the top third.
The fragrance has received the good rating due to the high quality and the "fine" tuning of the fragrance composition; since I simply cannot smell incense in this processing (ecclesiastical), I would probably never pull the fragrance. For people who like incense, however, this fragrance is a hidden champion that hides behind a fake bottle and looks "cute" but performs beastly!
ATTENTION: Be sure to test the fragrance in advance; it is definitely not a crowd-pleaser and is extremely strong. Definitely not a blind buy recommendation!
