Tender affection in a library in France...
... a kiss, so innocently sweet. Exchanged in a corner of a large library. The beginning of perhaps a new story, caught between millennia-old stories. Only briefly, the blink of an eye.
Before lips part again and the seriousness of great feelings gives way to youthful freedom.

For a long time I didn't want to test the fragrance at all, oud was the reason. Associations with the excretions of various hoofed animals made me avoid it until now.
But as curiosity won out and my perfume journey and nose developed further, I decided to make an exception. Admittedly, the fact that this is a "Guerlain" is not innocent. No other house has yet managed to inspire me after my initial reluctance. To adapt the review, to rediscover fragrance sensations again and again and ultimately to own some of the creations...

About the fragrance:
Very raspberry-sweet at the beginning. The opening is very similar to "French Kiss", if that's too sweet for you, you should perhaps refuse the kiss;-)
When I sniff it on my arm, I notice the oud. A brief sniff and a hoofed animal alert. But if you don't put your nose right up to your wrist like I do, the oud note is really tame ;-).

The fragrance undergoes a very nice development... Raspberry sweetness, softer oud, woods.
The woody note has something pleasant... a library or bookbindery... Paper, wood, glue... Craftsmanship.

The woody note is also what balances the raspberry sweetness for me and makes the fragrance wearable.
Towards the end, the raspberry sweetness remains with vanilla fluff peppered with marzipan sprinkles.

The fragrance is a balancing act for me as "my fragrance". At the beginning and end, it is somehow almost too sweet for me, but the woody middle makes it nice, so I like it and find it interesting.

Where and when I would wear it, I don't know yet, my mood during the day is not as changeable as the fragrance ... sweet and almost childlike to serious and then back to sweet again...
The title and first paragraph of the review aptly describe the course of the fragrance for me and as multi-layered as I perceive it.

It is probably too tame for oud lovers, but those who want to become one, or perhaps not yet, can give it a try!
Raspberry sweetness and the tangy, youthful lightness and light-heartedness associated with it is something you should also want to wear.

As of today, it is a good fragrance, not the best Guerlain and also not one that you absolutely "have to" get to know, if you had to limit yourself to just a few. Although it is multi-layered and undergoes a really beautiful development, the fragrance notes are not quite as unique and incomparable as in other creations by the house. But if there's one thing I've learned, it's that Guerlain manages to develop fragrances in such a way that they want to be discovered, almost "have" to be discovered and develop just like you do... ;-)

Synthetic opening, gorgeous dry down
The initial blast is woody but with a tart raspberry note. The raspberry soon settles to a sugary, syrupy evocation of the fruit which to my nose reads quite synthetic in a way I don’t enjoy. The oud is super subtle to begin with but makes its appearance as the fragrance dries. The base of it is my favourite, it almost has a caramelised effect but retains some of the sugary sweetness from the opening in a smoother way. The whole blend comes into it’s own in the dry down and reminds you that this is, after all, a Guerlain work. I wish it could be this from the beginning.

Who would have thought that oud could be so soft and fluffy?
Wow, this is so gorgeous and stunning! One of the best fragrances I tried this year and maybe the most beautiful oud ever. At least for my personal taste. It's so soft and feminine, and also completely original and unique. I haven't smelled something like this before.

Oud Nude starts out with bittersweet, marzipan-like almonds, velvety raspberry and a phantom cherry note that likely comes from the mix of raspberry and almond. It's juicy and fresh, but with a lovely warmth. The oud starts out as a background note and slowly moves forward. It's a warm, leathery, borderline animalic, but still not dirty rendition of oud that doesn't come across as sharp as many other cleaner ouds. Maybe the blending with sandalwood plays a role here and softens the oud.
As the scent dries down, rose and vanilla become more noticeable. It's hard to pinpoint where the rose begins and the raspberry ends, as this is a sweet, jammy kind of rose that is also quite subtle. This is not your usual rose/oud. The final drydown is powdery and close to the skin. All the notes blend into one harmonious new scent at this point. It's not loud, but the skin scent lasts over night.

This fits the name, coloring and notes list perfectly, but still exceeded my expectations.
I don't think that this smells like a typical Guerlain, but I also can't imagine any other house that would make such a fine-tuned, delicate perfume out of oud.
It's a shame that the L'Art & La Matière line only comes in those huge, expensive bottles that never go on sale, but I will find a way to get this into my collection. It's worth it.

i don't like every oud
The more my nose tries fragrances, the more critical I become. I've become very critical of oud. I don't do every oud, even if this accord (which is usually not real oud) seems to be very popular at the moment.
The fragrance reminds me a lot of "Portraits - The Bewitching Yasmine | Penhaligon's", which I love and is my signature scent for evenings in the cold season. Oud, cardamom and floral. However, I find Oud Nude much sweeter and a little more animalic.
I currently own a miniature. I will use it up in peace. I don't think it will replace "Portraits - The Bewitching Yasmine | Penhaligon's" for me, but the two are equal partners for me.

Turns out this type of polished oud goes pretty well with Guerlain's almond-cherry blend. Apart from the harsh opening maybe

Quite similar vibe to Clean Reserve Amber Saffron (raspberry suede), pretty but much more expensive

A lot more quiet and intriguing than I expected. Even though jumping (late) in the oud wagon, good to see Guerlain maintain their standards.

Initial raspberry opening quickly fades into almond laced with vanilla and traces of cedar. Drydown is gourmandish, but not sickling sweet.
