The sublime blaze
Can there actually be fragrances like serialized novels?
You have grown fond of a magnificent fragrance and keep it in your collection for years.
And then, all of a sudden, a new interpretation of the theme comes unexpectedly from a completely different corner and instantly inspires you.
I would like to thank two perfumers for this.
Kokusai for the beautiful sample in the guessing game.
Kreisquadrat for his detailed and brilliant review.

This fragrance and its much older brother in spirit One Man Show Eau de Toilette prove that incense can work very well far from the sacred.
Despite all the differences in structure and composition, both fragrances share a common direction.

What sets them apart is the evocation of a yellow-green aura, the elevation of the woods with herbaceous, smoky ethereal resin and the brightening with citrus fruits.

But there is much more to this fragrance.
I have the association of an alchemical miracle.
From a golden amber, the listed amber, escapes spectrally a massive color spectacle of mandarin, elemi resin and cedarwood.

From solid to gaseous state.

And this is called sublimation.

But I'm getting ahead of myself, giving too much away.
On the other hand, I can't help myself, because such hidden things are difficult to convey.

For what was just below turns out to be above. And vice versa.

Do you fancy an unusual fragrance experience?
Sizzle!
The magic of the moment.

Immediately enchanted by an incredibly cheerful and unusual atmosphere.

Mandarin in its sunny ripeness, juicy, coveted from time immemorial.
Bergamot gives way to elemi resin, which lifts the nose and senses in an ethereally citrusy way.

However, this golden resin points to another relative, amber, as the source of pleasure.
Extremely restrained at first, beckoning from the depths, subtle and waiting.
The various stages of the fragrance will reveal this.

Green notes refer to magnificent Mediterranean herbs.
As impressions would be:
Basil, rosemary and lemon thyme.
Well-dosed, wonderfully French "perfumed", only the inner wall of the vessel rubbed with it.
Anyone who has ever smelled such a bouquet garni, French for bouquet of herbs, knows that sometimes less is more.
It's the subtle essence that counts.

And the herbs remain subtle and thus fulfill their purpose. Their tart green vein is merely intended to support the focus on the resins, to emphasize them.

The mediator between bright, citrusy elemi resin and warm, supple amber with enclosed vanilla - amber holds many a precious way of life - is the successful cedarwood of the heart note.
It smells wonderful in the glistening Mediterranean sun and offers space on its branches for all the other components.
Not imposing but capturing.

A nostalgic postcard from the 1980s is signed with clove.
Tone on tone with the resins, it anoints golden, forming an almost soapy connection with the essential woods.

And it is precisely here that Nathalie Koobus perhaps unconsciously quotes the bright spark of One Man Show Eau de Toilette. Back then, however, inflamed with glorious cascarilla.
The effect is the same.

A mystical green flame blazes barely visible in the shimmering air.

All the components are thus lifted into a higher form of being, so close to the ideas.
The green modulated incense (thanks to the discreetly grassy vetiver), which does not need a constricting prayer room, helps here.

And the secret core of this invigorating energy is amber.
Steadily calm, it will always bring its refreshing essence back in due course.

Fascinating that an otherwise autumnal golden preciousness is now allowed to sublimate in the highest summer light.

Great things have been created here with simple means.

The circle closes and yet is so invigoratingly open.

Bruno Truchon Bartès, founder of La Manufacture Paris, is not only a connoisseur of the fragrance industry, he also understands the magic of old castles and monasteries in France.
His quest for timeless fragrances with references to these very estates is particularly successful with Admirabilis.
And I can only confirm his statement that the fragrance is "addictive".
I can't detach my nose from the spray.
Something inside me craves more, enjoys energetic things.

The fragrance captures all the mysteries and hidden knowledge of Fontfroide Abbey near Narbonne.
Hats off Madame Koobus, Monsieur Truchon Bartès!

But now I continued the novel.

If in One Man Show Eau de Toilette I let the hero feel the liberating power of the fragrance on the beaches near Montpellier, now he can drive a few kilometers further towards Spain.

He has been able to gather life experience, knows about the fast pace of past fashions and the permanence of the true, beautiful good, perhaps also about the coded secrets of what is written between the lines.

He will play "Blown a Wish" by My Bloody Valentine on the ride, that unwieldy piece of music of spherical, intangible sublimation.

The talking resins of the scent will whisper to him the most beautiful image of the Romanesque cloisters of that abbey on the wonderfully wooded slope of silence.

Once there, he will feel at home, as if he had never been away.

The centuries-old architecture, healing herbs of the garden, protective trees with refreshing resins.

He memorizes that.

And if necessary, he tricks the timeline and brings everything back to mind with the scent.
So little is enough to be happy.

Calm down my heart - don't beat so fast.
My first impression.

You too Shice! This is exactly the crap I was afraid of! Once sprayed into the air, this smoky-sweet resinousness spread, the smoke of which has been fried again in good butter and sugar so that no one forgets that it was sprayed here.

My current impression.

Forgive me, noble friend. I have wronged you! You are noble, good, and surely helpful in hours of
thirst for comfort. You will be there to calm the world when despots are angry, when everything is out of joint, even if it means accompanying me to my death.

Gosh, what am I writing here? But yes, that's how it is, somehow. Maybe because that's the way it is, maybe because I've just watched Watchmen in the Ultimate Cut again and am now finally venturing into the original comic. Maybe because that's exactly what the fragrance wants to convey. The reference to Fonfroide Abbey seems fitting, because that's exactly what it is. The calm, the in-your-face, the yet open look. For me, it is the mix of resins that could accompany the soul to heaven, the medium-fine woody smoke, which immediately made me think of the good Erzgebirge incense candles from Huss, and the sometimes only hint of citrus, which does not linger in the calm in a tangy and high-tonal way, but rather makes itself common with mild tones and complements the overall work.

I have the impression that the individual aromas support each other in order to achieve the big picture. Effortlessly and reliably, without ever seeming strained. It is this calmness and reliability that impresses me, without being musty or superficially dominant.
As an atheist, I'm not thinking of frankincense, myrrh and what else? Not of altar boys and some "dignitaries" wafting smoke around the nave. That is too profane, too tasteless. The fragrance is the original idea before its cultivation for the realization of one's own lust for power, dependencies, structures and personal advantages. This fragrance is the venerable person in the monastery who is part of the world, lives for it and looks at it with loving detachment.

It brings order and calm to my perfume cabinet. "There you go, you flitting peeps. Daddy's here! Quiet now." Then he smiles mildly to the group and everyone smiles back knowingly. "Yes, that's you, ADG Profumo. You know we love you and that's a good thing, but please don't take yourself too seriously. You're a very fine man, but your elegant wit doesn't always fit. And keep a closer eye on your little brothers." Everyone smiles again because they know their buddy Profumo and know exactly what the Admirabilis means here. "And you, Beau de Jour. You're the most beautiful one here and everyone knows it, including you, especially. But let's make sure we all achieve something nice here together. Let's do that. Right?" He looks around again in a friendly manner and everyone nods back happily.

That's pretty much how it's been in my perfume cupboard since yesterday.

Like Dunhill Edition, he lacks any self-irony. But he doesn't need to mention or emphasize that. He is the boss. The benevolent, mean-spirited one. No one would question him because he inspires confidence in himself that everyone can have in him. He stands and walks in the here and now. He is not looking forward to the party in the evening. He will be there, maybe. But maybe he won't fit in. Among the young people, the exuberantly good-humored ones. He'll decide when he gets there. Perhaps he will drop by briefly, greet the people and then, with joy in his heart at the good things, the joy that is happening elsewhere tonight, he will go into his chamber and devote himself with quiet enjoyment to studying the issues that hold the world together.

He does not look back in sadness at what has passed. He is here. He is now. With all the experiences that have made him what he is. He too will leave, sometime or soon. Any time will be the right time.

He certainly has something dark and sinister about him, but he lacks the morbidity that an encre noir might bring. Despite all the gloom, it is still optimistic.

For whom?

Not for young people. So it suits me. Surprisingly, it goes with a lot of things. Suit, wool sweater, polo shirt. The fragrance emphasizes the calmness that its wearer should bring with them. If you like to go all out, you'll find something better for the occasion. The friendly seriousness is not for the foppish manager, who likes to elevate himself above others with status symbols and showmanship. I can't really say for whom. Rather, for whom not.

For when?

First association - quite honestly - a funeral. What fragrance do you wear to a funeral? Who is calm enough? Who is supportive and conveys poise without being overbearing? Few, I think. There is always a certain positive solemnity to it. I will wear it when I want to rest or be at peace with myself.

If the fragrance were a watch.

That's damn difficult. In any case, solid, reliable, able to absorb shocks unnoticed. Yellow gold? No. Red gold? Perhaps. But also rather no. Here, the quoted "making yourself mean" would be missing. So stainless steel. A good, highly tempered stainless steel. A sports watch for people over 50, not aggressive, with nothing left to prove. A high-quality diver's watch that is equipped for all adversities, radiates calm and has a certain chic to it.

Now it's simple: My Seiko SLA049.

https://www.seikowatches.com/de-de/news/20210225-98911076326

A high-quality, solid, sporty watch that little can harm. The spherical blue tones and high-quality polishes add a touch of unobtrusive chic, while the revised "turtle shape" is reminiscent of the 70s without appearing dusty. The clear, straight hands and indices offer the best orientation at all times and are eternally attractive without changing between dot or trapezoid indices. In a class of its own. Powerful, modern and beautiful, yet so understated that you wouldn't buy a diver's watch in your early 20s because it doesn't attract enough attention or excitement. The story of Naomi Uemura, to commemorate his 80th birthday, the limited edition version was launched on the market. A great mountaineer and nature lover, lost in 1984, one of Japan's greatest national heroes.

Strangely alienating, admirable-wonderful

Here I have a warm foundation and a fresh, airy ceiling.

Elemi kicks the door open vigorously, tipping out fresh green molasses! Tough, viscous. An impression that is somewhat comparable to the Bottega Veneta pour Homme Eau de Toilette; just to get a rough idea of where things are heading here. But "Admirabils" works a little differently here. A vapor of green, woody and spicy additions, plus a resinous smokiness.
Noble, elegant... softly balsamic with earthy tones far in the background.

As the fragrance progresses, a sweet, spicy, woody, transparent materiality lays creamy on the skin. Cypriol should do a great job here. The progression from the top note to the heart note and within it is dynamic and multi-faceted.
Although there is a certain playful alternation between the individual ingredients, a relatively monolithic fragrance impression predominates in the base.

A striking fragrance that is neat, stylish, well-groomed and versatile at the same time. A classic elemi resin experience to boot.
The base taps the scent together to create a clean, pure experience with clerical-balsamic undertones. Greenish echoes. Velvety, airy. An idea of earthy forest wind sometimes comes to mind. But it quickly vanishes again like a subliminal thought.
Every now and then, granulated cloves, dried mandarin peel and cedarwood swirl up. Overall, a pleasantly dry perfume.
I therefore imagine that not every wearer will be able to make "Admirabilis" resonate. I suspect that the sweetness of the resins in the vetiver breeze could disturb one or two inexperienced people if the spray is too pronounced.

Personally, I feel safe and secure with "Admirabilis". For me, it fulfills several functions in one. On the one hand, I smell sweet enough to be able to appeal to a broader group of people with mass appeal, and on the other hand, I certainly appeal to people who like more non-conformist sounds.

Silage and semi-silence are based on my nose, which can quickly become odor-blind to some fragrance genres. During the first phase, "Admirabilis" is very present and very clear to me and my surroundings. One or two hours later, the overall effect is pleasantly subliminal. However, as mentioned, you should not overdo the spraying. Rather feel your way around.

The bottle offers nothing out of the ordinary. The portrait on the label is raised. The magnetic lid is pleasant, just a little unbalanced due to its light plastic interior.
The cardboard packaging is pleasantly firm and stable and offers my senses a pleasant tactile experience, as well as an eye-pleasing presentation.

I like it all and I'm not doing anything wrong as long as I can make "Admirabilis" my own for under €50. At over 145€ and more, however, I long for more unique selling points and significantly more finesse, adventure, flamboyance and extravagance.
Even at 145€, Admirabilis wouldn't necessarily be designer standard, but it wouldn't be clearly niche either. The fragrance experience should not be completely unfamiliar to experienced noses.
I am completely satisfied to have made this bargain!
"Sacred and mysterious breath along the cloisters of this characterful place.

Fontfroide Abbey, near Narbonne - South of France.

Elemi - amber - incense"
- can be found on the outer packaging. The encyclopedia entry on Fontfroide Abbey is a worthwhile addition to the fragrance.

Bathe me in this
I was on a ecclesiastical incense hunt, so I tried various references in this vein. However, Admirabilis was the grand prize winner: it has several resins, elemi being the most prominent, and has a piney quality that makes it fresh and warm at the same time. Also, it's a good value for its price: it's very similar to UNUM - Lavs, maybe lighter and brighter, but for half the price (well, before they increased their prices). I am soooo into their fragrances I can't stop gushing.
