I have become a basil groupie
I admit, I've hardly paid any attention to Montale fragrances so far. yes, the brand exists, I've heard of it, but I wasn't really interested in it. *cough* maybe also because the bottles are so ugly. But I couldn't resist a fragrance with basil in the name, I had to try it because I love basil as a scent. Don't like it, love it!
And what a wonderful basil interpretation I was presented with here. I had already tested the Thé Basilic and although I found it very tasty, it was a bit monotonous. Just basil, nothing else. Montale, on the other hand, has really built a composition around the basil.
The fragrance begins with a beautiful blend of pear and kumquat, which I am delighted to find very natural and not as sythethically fruity as in many designer fruit fragrances. The pepper is also perceptible, but very discreetly in the background.
After this naturally fruity start, the star enters the stage: basil. However, it does not displace the pear and kumquat, but is surrounded by them and the whole thing smells like a delicious Italian dessert to me at this point. Basil ice cream with fruit or something, heavenly, I want to sink into this scent.
After this first act, the basil then performs a solo act for a while until the white flowers and the base notes come in and slowly and carefully lead it to the drydown, even if they still leave the spotlight to it as the star. Towards the end, our star herb bows elegantly and leaves the stage hand in hand with the vetiver in a sweet-tart-herbaceous cloud and I in the audience have long since jumped up from my seat, roaring and applauding and waving a "Fantastic Basilic - I love you!!!!!!!" sign around like crazy Sign back and forth as if I wanted to show a jumbo jet the runway.
